Infrared Sauna

  • Detoxification

We ingest, absorb and breathe in toxins and chemicadailysis that our ancestors never knew, such as pesticides, heavy metals, environmental pollution, PCBs in plastics, and chemicals in household and personal care products. This overburden of chemicals or toxic load leads to impaired detoxification and metabolic health, in addition to accumulated toxins in the tissues.

Thankfully, infrared sauna treatments are an effective tool for supporting detoxification, specifically through sweating, which has been shown to increase detoxification and decrease circulating levels of toxins in the body.

  • Circulation

Infrared sauna therapy has been shown to have positive effects on blood flow, the heart and the cardiovascular system in general. These effects are due to the increased heart rate, blood flow, and improved blood pressure.

Proper circulation is critical for achieving optimal health. Infrared sauna therapy has been found to improve circulation and significantly improve blood vessel function, which has many far-reaching benefits, from better skin tone, wound healing, and brain function to lowered blood pressure.

  • inflammation

Another excellent aspect of infrared sauna therapy is its ability to reduce chronic pain and inflammation. The heat penetrates deep into the tissues, which is effective for treating pain and inflammation and promoting healing.

Research shows that infrared sauna therapy has resulted in a significant decrease in the level of pro-inflammatory cytokines - a biomarker for inflammation.

Research has also shown that patients with rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis who participated in infrared sauna therapy experienced reduced pain, stiffness, and fatigue which researchers attribute to reduced inflammation levels.

What is infrared sauna therapy?

Hot baths and saunas have been used extensively by cultures across the globe, from the Hot Caves of Japan, the sweat lodge ceremonies of Native Americans to the Diocletian baths of Ancient Rome; the benefits of saunas has been felt for centuries.

Infrared sauna therapy differs slightly from these practices and instead harnesses new technology and science to generate infrared wavelengths that penetrate deeper into the tissues without excessive heat, making it ideal for people who can’t tolerate traditional sauna rooms.

The infrared waves aka “far-infrared” waves (FIR) have the ability to stimulate and positively affect the deep tissues of the body by penetrating below the surface of the skin, promoting mitochondrial activity (energy production) and effectively circulating heat.

Research so far demonstrates that regular use of infrared sauna therapy is a safe, affordable and effective way to reduce pain and inflammation, support detoxification pathways, improve circulation and cardiovascular function, improve skin tone and much more.

How and when to use infrared saunas
